DigiYatra : New way of traveling

Through the DigiYatra Platform, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is expanding the digital experience available to air travellers. Aligned with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Digital India goal to create a digitally empowered nation, the “DigiYatra” is an industry-led programme managed by the Ministry.

What is DigiYatra ?

DigiYatra is the term for the digital passenger processing at airports. At checkpoints such as the aircraft boarding, security check, and entry point check, passengers will be automatically processed using a facial recognition technology. Additionally, by using face recognition and data recall to identify travellers, this will simplify self-bag drop and check-in. Travelling paperless and avoiding identity checks at many locations would be made easier with DigiYatra.

DigiYatra Enrolment Process

In a central system, passengers can create a DigiYatra ID by supplying the following:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Mobile number
  • Identity Details (Aadhar, Driver’s Licence, Voter ID, etc.)

DigiYatra IDs are created upon submission. Passengers may mention this number when securing their ticket. Airline data, including DigiYatra ID, will be transmitted to the airport of departure. When travelling for the first time, passengers must visit the airport registration kiosk to get their IDs validated.

  1. The Aadhar verification process will be conducted online.
  2. Should another ID exist, CISF will independently confirm.

After a successful verification, the passenger’s photo will be posted to the central DigiYatra profile.

DigiYatra Process at Airport

DigiYatra is a digital initiative aimed at making airport processes more efficient and hassle-free. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use DigiYatra at the airport:

  • The passenger will scan his boarding pass or electronic ticket (print or a soft copy on a mobile device) at the E-Gate entrance point.
  • The technology will verify the flight information and passenger details upon scanning the bar code or QR code.
  • DigiYatra ID will use facial recognition to confirm the identity.
  • e-Gate will open upon a successful ticket and DigiYatra ID verification. Additionally, face with ticket PNR is combined into a single token for the rest of the flight journey.
  • The passenger will be able to enter the aeroplane and security area. Boarding via the Face Recognition System-operated e-Gate

DigiYatra Benefits

  • Travellers do not need to present their ID or boarding pass at each checkpoint.
  • Minimal involvement from humans.
  • Shorter wait times in lines. Because the system will map the passenger with the PNR, security is improved.
  • At each checkpoint, only legitimate passengers will be permitted admission.
  • Real-time information on passenger load will be available to airport operators, improving resource planning.
  • Knowing where passengers are located in the airport can help airlines. Throughput at the airport will increase.

How would DigiYatra be useful?

The DigiYatra platform is like building a big project on four main parts: Connected Passengers, Connected Airports, Connected Flying, and Connected Systems. The DigiYatra will help passengers in following ways :

  1. Planning their trips better by seeing when flight prices go up or down and guessing what the flight would cost when booking tickets.
  2. Choose to link their Aadhaar (a kind of ID) with airlines and other groups when booking to get into the airport faster and check in without needing any paper.
  3. Go through security checks quickly because of advanced fingerprint and face scanning technology.
  4. Get important information about airport services, rules, flight times, and how long the waiting time is
  5. Enjoy special digital activities in certain areas of the airport.
  6. Receive updates right away if there are any hold-ups or crowded areas, so they know what to expect next on their journey.
  7. Find their way around the airport easily using digital maps, helpful screens, and apps that use augmented reality (like video games that mix real and virtual things).
  8. Stay connected during their flight and enjoy fun online activities. They can also order in-flight services and plan things for their destination online.
  9. Be alerted when their luggage is ready to pick up.
  10. Share their thoughts, experiences, or any complaints they might have.

This platform aims to make traveling smoother and more fun for everyone.
